Daniel’s writings end in hope. Although he didn’t entirely understand, Christ told him to seal the words of the scroll. Those living at the end of Earth’s history would discover the details, shining like the brightness of the heavens. In his explanation, Christ added personal hope: when He returned to Earth, Daniel would receive his inheritance, along with everyone else.
When someone dies, the surviving family typically receives an inheritance. Because Christ died and rose victorious, his family inherits eternal life. The Holy Spirit is given to us as a seal—a safe deposit on our heavenly inheritance. But the inheritance isn’t fully realized until Christ returns to Earth.
Esau sold his inheritance for food. Judas sold his for silver. Christ told a parable where vineyard tenant farmers, after stoning and killing the owner’s servants, plotted to kill the owner’s son, and take his inheritance.
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,” (Philippians 1:9-10 NIV)
