Rails East: Teacher Train

railroad:winnemucca

Winnemucca, Nevada: “During a stop in Nevada, I met Sarah Winnemucca, a member of the Paiute Royal Family. She knew many languages, and dreams of teaching Paiute children. Winnemucca means “shell ginger”. She had planted many of the flowers in a meadow near the railroad—so as the trains left the settlement, the passengers caught whiffs of the sweet fragrance. She urged her horse to race our iron engine. Her horse won by a nose!”

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”
Psalm 32:8 KJV
