Peace in the Storm

faith in action

A squall surprised the crew, who feared the injured calf would sink the boat. Instead, he slept peacefully through the storm.

“And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.

And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”
Matthew 8:24-26 KJV

Leap of Faith

stormy rescue

Before crossing an inlet in Alaska, Moose found space on his fishing boat for an injured moose calf.

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”
James 1:6 KJV

Prism Promises: Mercy

animal parade

As smoke from a nearby forest fire filled the air one morning, neighbors laughed it away as just another foggy day. They scoffed at Moose and June’s invitations to join them inside the shelter. Watching forest animals stroll into the ship barn made for a great punch line.

“And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.”
Genesis 7:1 KJV

Not Just Another Luau

feast for the eyes

The sight of a mother moose and her calf silenced Moose and June’s early morning chatter.

“When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.”
John 2:9-11 KJV

Moose and Malarkey

moose, alaska

When serving the crew their daily slop in the port of Juneau, June heard the sailors teasing one of the fresh “recruits”—calling him “Moose”. He had raised a bull moose from a baby, and it followed him everywhere. It raised a ruckus as the captain captured the young man, which earned him a whipping. June noticed Moose had kind eyes, despite his fresh wounds.

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”
Romans 8:15 KJV
