In December, Montana helped decorate the second largest sequoia in the world; named in honor of Ulysses S. Grant.

Coloring Fun: The Open Door

the open door:revelation 3:8

When traveling in bad weather, Jeb depended on the open door policy of the church in Philadelphia.

“I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.”
Revelation 3:8 KJV

Midnight

mount edgecumbe

Amidst the slime and grit of the slave ship, June discovered in painful ways that she’d have to adjust her ‘clean peace’ approach. Assigned galley duty, she spent long midnight days peeling, mashing and scrubbing. As they neared the port of Sitka, her eyes rested on the pure white of snow-capped Mount Edgecumbe.

“To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Luke 1:79 KJV

“God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.”
Job 37:5, 6 KJV

This wood duck floated by my husband’s camera at our lake cabin rental one wintry day. Did you notice the shadow of his partner in the ripples?

winter crepe myrtle

After a snowstorm blanketed my north Alabama community with five inches of snow, I donned my boots; grabbed my camera. I savored the clear sky and children’s chatter, as the wind shook snow whispers from the crepe myrtles that line our streets.

Reader’s Choice: Blue Winter Stroll

Solving my winter blues.

“For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”
Isaiah 55:12, 13 KJV

As I sit in this spacious place, I’m convinced this project enabled God to work in (sometimes) mysterious ways, and the physical end product wasn’t the main goal. The new construction meets needs both present and future, but it sure wouldn’t win a Best on the Block competition. I prefer to believe it worked God’s purposes, in our lives and others.
