Ruth: Waiting for Inheritance

sowing and reaping

Susanna allowed the pioneer family to glean fallen apples as they looked for a permanent home in Orchard Valley. When the children discovered blueberries nearby, Susanna shared her own wagon train story as she helped bake a blue apple pie.

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,”
Ephesians 1:17-19 KJV

Sew Straight

“The wagon train traveling west created a safe home for me as a runaway slave,” Harriet explained. She showed Susanna where she had hidden her signature on the log cabin design. “Not my best work, but the challenge of creating something useful from scraps on the jolting ride gave me hope. The trunk must have gotten mixed up in the chaos as our wagons chose different trails.”

“Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.”
Hebrews 12:11-13 KJV

Pattern of Hope

As Harriet led the songfest with Sam, she slowly recognized the specific colors and patterns of the quilt that wrapped Susanna and June in warmth.

“That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:”
Psalm 78:7 KJV

In Orchard Valley, Rosita discovered a trunk from the wagon train in the storage room of the chapel. The believers used the dresses and quilts they found stored inside to meet the needs of their community. Susanna read the note Rosita had tucked inside the quilt:
“I’ve been reading Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians and felt impressed to send this to you after reading chapter four. I think of you often and may this quilt bring comfort to your hurting heart.”

“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
Isaiah 65:24 KJV

Rosita and Susanna hung the temple wagon quilt in the foyer of the new chapel. The quilt reminded the community that God’s unfailing love covered all believers.

“Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.”

End of the Trail

quilted memories

Love leads the future.

“And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.”
Joshua 4:21-24 KJV
